Description: Located in Dorset, Bournemouth sits on the south coast of England. Only founded in 1810 by Lewis Tregonwell, it has had a rapid rise thanks in great part to the arrival of the railway. It has traditionally been a holiday destination and dealt with numerous tourists who came for the medicinal effects of salt water and the fresh air. By 1880 the population of Bournemouth had risen to 17,000 and by 1901, 60,000. Bournemouth was originally part of Hampshire. It joined Dorset in 1974.
