Description: Located in Somerset, Bath sits to the north-east of the county. Historically a spa town, Bath has always attracted tourists who came for the hot springs. Bath also had a thriving baking industry and was famous for it's production of buns and teacakes. In 1801 the population of Bath was some 40,020. The city's horse-drawn tram system was opened in 1880 and replaced by electric trams in 1904. Bath was bombed during the Second World War causing extensive damage to buildings. Traditionally part of Somerset, it joined Avon in 1974. This was abolished in 1996 and Bath returned to Somerset.
