Description: Located in Kent, Tonbridge sits to the west of the county and sits on the River Medway. Traditionally a market town, Tonbridge focused on hops, timber, coal, lime and gunpowder. In 1842 Tonbridge was connected to the rail network. This changed the town which began to work on the production of cabinets and wooden boxes, known as Tunbridgeware. Later, plastic moulding and engineering companies grew in Tonbridge such as The Crystalate Gramaphone Record Company. Tonbridge had a POW camp built nearby during the Second World War.
