Description: Located in Bedfordshire, Luton is famous for it's hatting industry. Served by the straw-plaiters of Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire. In 1801 the population of Luton was 3,095 but by 1901 it had almost reached 40,000 such was it's growth and was rewarded with connection to the rail network. In 1905, Vauxhall Motors opened the UK's largest vehicle production company in Luton, employing 30,000 at it's height. Today the population totals 205,000.
