Description: Located in the East Midlands, Northampton is the county town of Northamptonshire. Northampton has traditionally been a shoe-making centre in England, with companies such as Church's and Trickers based there. In 1800 the population of Northampton was just 7,000. This was initially driven by demand in the Napoleonic wars. It has also focused on other leather industries. Connection in 1815 to the Grand Union canal assisted in the growth of Northampton. They connected to the rail network in 1845. In 1901 the population of Northampton was 87,000.
