Description: Located in Gloucestershire, Gloucester is the county town and sits upon the River Severn. Rather surprisingly Gloucester is actually a port, being linked to the Severn estuary by the Gloucester and Sharpness canal. Large employers included the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company, as well as aircraft industries such as the Gloster Aircraft Company (aircraft and engine construction), Messier-Dowty (landing gear) and Smiths Aerospace Dowty (propellers). Gloucester also had a number of flour mills.
