Description: Located in Greater London, Mile End sits in the east-end of London on the River Thames. Also known as Mile End Old Town. It suffered heavy bomb damage during the Second World War. Some of the employment was breweries, a distillery, cloth manufacturing, tobacco-pip production as well as warehouses for timber and corn. Originally the parish of Stepney in the county of Middlesex, it became part of London in 1889. In 1900 it was renamed the Metropolitan Borough of Stepney. In 1965 it became part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in Greater London.
