Description: Located in Greater London, Lambeth sits on the south bank of the River Thames. It is part of the London Borough of Lambeth. The north of Lambeth was actually marshland until the 1850s. Access to the north of London was provided by horse-drawn ferry before bridges were built across it. In the 1800s Lambeth developed glass-making, pottery and boat production. Originally part of the parish of Lambeth St Mary, which sat within Surrey, it moved to within London in 1889. In 1900 it became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Lambeth. In 1965 it became part of the London Borough of Lambeth when it joined Greater London
