Below is some genealogy information and websites about the history and social geography of Norwich.
North-East, North-West, South-East, South-West, Midlands, London, East Anglia
Description: Located in Norfolk, Norwich is the county town. They had a large textile industry, in particular, shawls. Norwich was Great Britain's second or third city before the industrial revolution but the decline in popularity of the shawl and the remote location of Norwich saw it by-passed by many booming industrial cities. In 1845 Norwich was connected to the rail network. Norwich had also traditionally been a shoe-making centre in England, with companies such as Sexton, Son & Everard Ltd, Howlett & White and the Norvic Shoe Company based there. This was to continue, along with increased manufacturing, chocolate and Christmas-cracker making (Caley's) and brewing. Norwich suffered from extensive bombing in World War Two.
