Description: Located in Essex, Colchester has claims as one of the UKs oldest towns. In 1865 Standard Ironworks was founded. This was a large employer in Colchester and by 1925 was producing oil engines. After the 1930s, they focused on diesel engines. In 1883 the water tower at Balkerne Gate. In 1884 Colchester experienced a large earthquake which caused significant damage to buildings. Much work was required to re-build these.
