The Gold Train, Meryl Streep and its a funny old world.

1. Gold Train

Great, descriptive account of how Hungarian Jews were asset-stripped in the most efficient and appalling way and the subsequent flight by the Nazis on a train loaded with gold. As the Nazis flee and the Allies bring victory to Europe, the gold train continues it's journey with claims and counter-claims about it's actual value.

2.  Meryl Streep - Durham ancestry, not Lincolnshire

Recent claims that Meryl Steep has roots in Lincolnshire look to have been unfounded. She does has ancestry in the UK but it is Durham and not Lincolnshire. A little embarrassing for Meryl Streep having announced this at the BAFTAs!

3. Its a funny old world

Whilst doing research for my website, I have come across many humourous names and places. Whilst looking at Royal Navy ships I found myself wondering whether the HMS Pantaloon was a laughing stock 200 years ago or were all ships of war taken seriously. I have to say, if I was the enemy I would fancy my chances and face them rather than the HMS Dreadnought. However, comedy name so far goes to John W. Slaughter B.A. M.B. He was Staff Surgeon aboard the HMS Amphion in 1900.

Have you come across anything that made you laugh?
