Description: Someone who worked in the mining industry. A miner, or face worker, who cut coal, stone, etc, in a mine using hand tools. This was a tough job, working long hours in very poor conditions. Mine collapse, flooding, gas build-up and explosions, not to mention long-term illness such as 'black lung' which were common occurrences.
