Description: Someone who applied gold leaf to objects. Gilding is the decorative technique of applying fine metallic-leaf or powder to solid surfaces such as wood, stone, or metal. They suffered from health problems as a result of their proximity to the gold leaf. Quicksilver poisoning either from inhalation or from physical exposure caused a pricking or burning sensation in the stomach, thirst and vomiting (similar to arsenic poisoning) as well as bad breath, stomach pains and purging from the bowels.
