Description: Someone who operated a machine that finished or polished an item, usually made of metal; Someone who worked in the textile industry that finished the weaving process. Depending on what the cloth was used for it could be washed, bleached, dried or printed. Conditions in those mills were poor with aching head and limbs and nausea being commonplace, not to mention the over-crowding, the smell, the heat, lack of sanitation, the long hours and the repetitive, boring work.
