Description: Someone who was qualified to practice dentistry (a branch of medicine concerned with teeth and gums) for paying customers. Dentists were prone to injury through patient's biting, especially to their hands and fingers. Injuries from instruments could also occur. Natually, injured hands or fingers could not be placed inside a patient's mouth for fear of infection so any injury was a large problem for a dentist.
