Below are some resources I recommend if any of your ancestors in your family tree were blacksmith's strikers.

Description: Someone who assisted the blacksmith in his job, working with iron using a furnace, anvil, and hammer. Iron is a so-called 'black' metal, given this name as it turns black when heated. They also work with steel. The metals were heated using furnaces driven by wood or coal until malleable enough to shape with tools. This was known as forging. The assistant, often an apprentice, carried out the heavier duties by swinging the heavy hammer during forging whilst the blacksmith held the heated iron with tongs. See also Whitesmith, Brightsmith, Vulcan, Blacksmith, Blacksmith's Apprentice.
