Description: The Salonika Campaign began in October 1915 when joint French and British force landed at Salonika. The objective was to help Serbia against the Bulgarians. However, they arrived too late to assist. With Bulgarian aggression almost guaranteed and uncertainty surrounding the Greeks due to significant pro-German factions in the higher echelons of government, the force dug in near Salonika. By the summer of 1916 the force had been reinforced by Serbian, Russian and Italian troops. The rest of the campaign was spent repulsing Buglarian attacks and taken small advances, culminating in the abortive battle of Doiran in 1918, which lost many British lives. Shortly after a gap was forced in the Buglarian and Austro-Hungarian lines which was exposed by Serbian, French and British cavalry. This resulted in Bulgaria suing for peace.
