Description: The battle of Lys, also known as the 4th battle of Ypres, took place on 9-29 April 1918 at Ypres in Belgium and fought between allied troops from Britain, Australia, Portugal and France and the German Empire. The Germans were on the offensive, trying to take Ypres once and for all. Initial success was had by defeating two Portuguese divisions who were severely depleted and low on morale. However, the Germans were stopped by French, British and Australian infantry. The result was a stalemate.
