Description: The 2nd battle of the Somme began in August 1918. Having halted the German attacks in early 1918 during the 1st battle of the Somme the Allies now counter-attacked. Part of the plan was to break the supply lines of the Germans. A series of successes pushed the Germans back behind the Hindenburg Line, a strong defensive line set-up after the Somme battle of 1916.
