Description: Formed in 1685 in response to the Monmouth rebellion under King James II. They saw action in the Nine Years War. In 1694 they were renamed the 14th Regiment of Foot. They saw action in the Jacobite Rebellion. In 1751 they were renamed the 14th of Foot. They saw action during the American War of Independence. In 1782 they were renamed The 14th (Bedfordshire) Regiment. They action in the Napoleonic Wars fighting in the Low Countries and later on the Iberian Peninsula. In 1809 they were renamed The 14th (Buckinghamshire) Regiment. They saw action at the Battle of Waterloo. They saw action in the Crimean War. In 1881 they were renamed The Prince of Wales's Own (West Yorkshire Regiment). They saw action in the Boer Wars, fighting at Colenso, Spionkop and Valkrantz and Pieters. During the First World War they fought along the Western and Greek fronts, at battles such as Mons, Le Cateau, Marne, Aisne, Messines, the 1st battle of Ypres, Neuve Chapelle, Aubers Bridge, Loos, the Somme (1916) the Hindenburg Line, Arras, Cambrai, the 1st battle of the Somme (1918), Lys, the 2nd battle of the Somme (1918), Selle, Gallipoli and Vittorio Veneto. During the Second World War they fought across many fronts including the Far East and Africa. In 1958 they were amalgamated with the East Yorkshire Regiment (15th Foot), forming The Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire. In 2006 they were amalgamated with the Green Howards and the Duke of Wellington's Regiment (West Riding), forming the Yorkshire Regiment (14th/15th, 19th and 33rd/76th). Their nickname is Calvert's Entire or The Old and Bold.
