Description: Formed in 1642 as Marquis of Argyll's Royal Regiment. In 1650 they were renamed the Lyfe Guard of Foot. The regiment ceased to exist for a number of years following Royalist defeat at the battle of Worcester. They re-formed in 1661 as the Scottish Regiment of Foot Guards. They saw action during the War of the Spanish Succession and were re-named the 3rd Regiment of Foots Guards in 1713 following it's conclusion. They saw action during the War of the Austrian Succession, the Seven Years War and later the American War of Independance. They served during the Napoleonic Wars, in Egypt, Copenhagen and the Peninsular Wars before fighting at the battle of Waterloo. In 1830 they were re-named the Scots Fusilier Guards. During the Crimean War they fought at Alma, Inkerman and Sevastapol. In 1877 they were renamed the Scots Guards. They saw action during the Boer Wars, fighting at Modder River, Belmont and Graspan, Magersfontein and Paardeberg. During the First World War they fought at Mons, Marne, Aisne, the 1st battle of Ypres, Festubert, Neuve Chappelle, Loos, Aubers Brigde, the Hindenburg Line, Somme (1916), Cambrai, the 3rd battle of Ypres, Somme (1918), Arras, and Selle, having been transferred the newly created Guards Division in 1915. During the Second World War they served across the Western, African and Italian fronts, with some battalions becoming temporarily armoured. They were involved in the invasion of Italy. In 1982 they fought in the Falklands War. Their nickname is The Jocks.
