Description: Formed in 1678 in Scotland to assist during the Second Whig Revolt as the Earl of Mar's Regiment of Foot. They initially served King James II but switched allegiance to King William III after the former King fled. In 1695 they were renamed The Scots Fusilier Regiment of Foot. They saw action during the War of the Spanish Succession. In 1712 they were renamed The Royal Scots Fusilier Regiment of Foot. In 1713 they were renamed the 21st (Royal North British Fusilier) Regiment of Foot. They saw action during the Jacobite Rebellion. In 1751 they were renamed the 21st Regiment. They saw action during the Crimean War, fighting at Inkerman and Sevastapol. In 1877 they were renamed the 21st (Royal Scots Fusiliers) Regiment of Foot. In 1881 they were renamed The Scots Fusiliers. They saw action during the Boer Wars, fighting at Colenso, Spionkop and Valkrantz and Pieters. During the First World War they fought across the Western and Italian fronts at battles such as Mons, Le Cateau, Marne, Aisne, the Ludendorff offensive, Messines, the first battle of Ypres, Neuve Chapelle, Aubers Birdge, Festubert, Loos, the Somme (1916), the Hindenburg Line, Arras, Cambrai, the Somme (1918), Lys, Selle, Passchendaele and Vittorio Veneto. In 1959 they were amalgamated with the Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment), forming The Royal Highland Fusiliers (Princess Margaret's Own Glasgow and Ayrshire Regiment). Their nickname is the Earl of Mar's Grey Beeks.
