Description: They were formed in 1881 by an amalgamation of the 47th (Lancashire) Regiment of Foot, the 81st (Loyal Lincoln Volunteers) Regiment, the 3rd Duke of Lancaster's Own Royal Lancashire Militia and the 11th and 14th Lancashire Rifle Volunteer Corps. They saw action in the Boer Wars, fighting at Kimberley, Belmont and Graspan, Colenso, Modder River and Magersfontein. During the First World War they fought across the Western, Middle-Eastern, Balkan and Turkish fronts at battles such as Mons, Marne, Aisne, the 1st battle of Ypres, Aubers Bridge, Loos, the Somme (1916), the Hindenburg Line, Cambrai, Arras, Passchendaele, the 1st battle of the Somme (1918), the advance in Flanders, Gallipoli, Doiran. During the Second World War they fought across the Western, Italian, African and Far-Eastern fronts at battles such as the Dunkirk evacuations and the invasion of Italy. In 1970 they were amalgamated with The Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Volunteers), forming The Queen's Lancashire Regiment. Their nickname is The Cauliflowers, The Lancashire Lads or Wolfe's Own.
