Description: The King's Shropshire Light Infantry formed in 1881 when the 53rd (Shropshire) Regiment of Foot, the 85th (King's Light Infantry) Regiment of Foot, the Shropshire Militia, the Royal Herefordshire Militia and the Shropshire Rifle Vounteer Corps amalgamated. In 1882 they were renamed The King's (Shropshire Light Infantry). During the First World War they fought across the Western and Balkan fronts at battles such as Mons, Le Cateau, Marne, Aisne, Messines, the 1st battle of Ypres, Loos, WWI: Mount Sorrel, the Somme (1916), the Hindenburg Line, Arras, Cambrai, Passchendaele, the 1st battle of the Somme (1918), the 2nd battle of the Somme (1918), Selle, the advance in Flanders, Horseshoe Hill, Machukovo, Doiran. In 1921 they were renamed The King's Shropshire Light Infantry. In 1948 the regiment became part of the Light Infantry Brigade. In 1968 they were amalgamated with The King's Own Yorkshire Infantry, the Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry and the Durham Light Infantry, forming The Light Infantry Regiment. Their nickname is The Brickdusts or Old Five and Threepences.
