Description: Formed in 1756 in North America as the 62nd (Royal American) Regiment, they were created to defend English colonial interests in America. In 1757 it was renamed the 60th (Royal American) Regiment. They saw action during the Napoleonic Wars, fighting in the Peninsular Wars. In 1815 they were renamed The Duke of York's Own Rifle Corps. In 1830 they were renamed the King's Royal Rifle Corps. They saw action during the Boer Wars, fighitng at Talana Hill, Belmont and Graspan, Colenso, Ladysmith and Spionkop. During the First World War they fought across the Western, Italian and Greek fronts at battles such as Mons, Marne, Aisne, the 1st battle of Ypres, Aubers Bridge, Loos, Mount Sorrel, the Somme (1916), the Hindenburg Line, Arras, Passchendaele, the 1st battle of the Somme (1918) and the advance in Flanders. In 1926 they became a mechanizes regiment. During the Second World War they fought across the Western, African, Italian and Greek fronts fighting at battles such as Dunkirk and Arnhem (Operation Market Garden). In 1948 they joined with the Ox and Bucks Light Infantry and the Rifle Brigade to form the Green Jackets Brigade. In 1958 they were renamed the 2nd Green Jackets, The King's Royal Rifle Corps. In 1966 they became part of the Royal Green Jackets. In 2007 the Royal Green Jackets were amalgamated with the Light Infantry regiment, forming The Rifles. Their nickname is The Green Jackets, The Jaeger, The Kaiser's Own.
