Description: Formed in 1680 as the 2nd Tangier or Earl of Plymouth's Regiment of Foot. They saw action in the Nine Years War and the Jacobite Rebellion. In 1751 they were renamed the 4th (King's Own) Regiment of Foot. They saw action in the Napoleonic Wars on the Iberian Peninsula as well as the battle of Waterloo. They saw action in the Crimean War, fighting at the battles of Alma, Inkerman and Sevastapol. They saw action during the Boer Wars, fighting at Spionkop, Valkrantz and Pieters and Ladysmith. During the First World War they fought across the Western, Greek and Middle Eastern Fronts at battles such as Mons, Le Cateau, Marne, Aisne, Messines, 1st battle of Ypres, 2nd battle of Ypres, Aubers Bridge, WWI: Loos, Somme (1916), Hindenburg Line, Arras, Cambrai, 1st battle of the Somme (1918), Lys, 2nd battle of the Somme (1918), Advance in Flanders, 2nd battle of Arras (1917), Selle, Valenciennes, 3rd battle of Ypres, Gallipoli, Horseshoe Hill, Machukovo, Doiran. During the Second World War they fought across the Western, Middle Easter, African and Far Eastern fronts. In 1959 they were amalgamated with The Border Regiment forming The King's Own Royal Border Regiment. Their nickname is The Lions or Barrell's Blues.
