Description: The regiment was formed in 1685. In 1751 they were renamed the 8th (The King's) Regiment of Foot. In 1881 they were renamed The King's (Liverpool Regiment). They saw action during the Boer Wars, fighting at Talana Hill, Elandslaagte and Ladysmith. During the First World War they fought along the Western, Indian and Balkan fronts at battles such as Mons, Le Cateau, Marne, Aisne, Messines, the 1st battle of Ypres, the WWI: 2nd battle of Ypres, Neuve Chapelle, Aubers Bridge, Festubert, Loos, Mount Sorrel, the Somme (1916), the Hindenburg Line, Arras, Cambrai, Passchendaele, the 1st battle of the Somme (1918), Lys, Selle, the Advance in Flanders, Vittorio Veneto, Horseshoe Hill, Machukovo and Doiran. During the Second World War they fought on the Western, African, Far Eastern, Italian and Greek fronts. They fought in the Invasion of Italy and were part of the British force sent to Greece, as well as taking part in the Normandy invasions, landing at both Sword and Juno beaches. In 1958 they were amalgamated with the Manchester Regiment, forming The King's Regiment (Manchester and Liverpool). In 2006 they were amalgamated once again, forming the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment. Their nickname is The Leather Hats, The Liverpools, L'Pool R, The King's or the King's Hanoverian White Horse.
