Description: They were formed in 1572 as Thomas Morgan's Company of Foot, The London Trained Bands. In 1665 they were renamed the 4th (The Holland Maritime) Regiment and later the 4th (The Holland) Regiment. In 1688 they were renamed the 4th The High Admiral's Regiment and later the 3rd (Howard's) Regiment of Foot. They saw action in the War of the Spanish Succession. In 1751 they were renamed the 3rd (Kent) Regiment of Foot, 'The Buffs'. They saw action in the Seven Years War. In 1782 they were renamed the 3rd (East Kent) Regiment of Foot ('The Buffs'). In 1881 they were renamed The Buffs, (East Kent Regiment). They saw action in the Napoleonic Wars on the Iberian Peninsula. They saw action in the Crimean War at the Siege of Sevastapol. They saw action during the Boer Wars fighting at the battles of Spionkop and Paardenberg. During the First World War they fought along the Western, Middle Eastern and Greek fronts at the battles of Aisne, 1st battle of Ypres, Loos, the Somme (1916), Arras, Messines, Passchendaele, Cambrai, the 1st battle of the Somme (1918), the Hindenburg Line, Selle, Doiran and 3rd battle of the Gaza. In 1935 they were renamed The Buffs, (Royal East Kent Regiment). During the Second World War they fought along the Western, African, Middle Eastern and Far Eastern fronts at battles such as El Alamein and the Invasion of Italy. In 1961 they were amalgamated with The Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment, forming The Queen's Own Buffs, The Royal Kent Regiment. In 1966 they were amalgamated forming The Queen's Regiment. In 1992 they were amalgamated with the Royal Hampshire Regiment forming the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment. Their nickname is The Old Buffs.
