Description: Formed in 1685 as a fusilier regiment known as the Ordinance Regiment. In 1751 they were renamed the 7th Regiment of Foot (Royal Fusiliers). They saw action in the American War of Independence. They saw action during the Napoleonic Wars on the Iberian Peninsula. They saw action in the Crimean War, fighting at Inkerman and Sevastapol. In 1881 they were renamed The Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment). During the First World War they fought along the Western, African, Middle East and Greek fronts at battles such as Mons, Le Cateau, Marne, Aisne, Messines, 1st battle of Ypres, the second battle of Ypres, Neuve Chapelle, Aubers Bridge, Festubert, Loos, the Somme (1916), Hindenburg Line, Arras, Cambrai, the Somme (1918), Lys, the Advance in Flanders, Selle, Valenciennes, Passchendaele, Gallipoli, Salonika and the 3rd battle of the Gaza. During the Second World War they saw action across Europe. In 1963 they were joined with the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers (5th), the Royal Warwickshire and the Lancashire Fusiliers (20th) forming the Fusilier Brigade. In 1968 they were amalgamated with the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers (5th), the Royal Warwickshire Fusiliers and the Lancashire Fusiliers (20th), forming the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.
