Description: Formed in 1688 by Kings James II. In 1751 they were renamed the 16th Regiment of Foot. In 1782 they were renamed the 16th (The Buckinghamshire) Regiment of Foot. In 1809 they were renamed the 14th (The Bedfordshire) Regiment of Foot and later the 16th (The Bedfordshire) Regiment of Foot. In 1881 they were renamed The Bedfordshire Regiment. They saw action in the Boer Wars at the battle of Paardenburg. During the First World War they fought across the Western and Middle Eastern fronts at battles such as Mons, Marne, the first battle of Ypres, the second battle of Ypres, Loos, the Somme (1916), Arras, Cambrai, Passchendaele, the Somme (1918) and Gaza. In 1919 they were merged with the Hertfordshire Regiment, forming The Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment. During the Second World War they fought across the Western, African and Far Eastern fronts in the Dunkirk evacuations, Normandy landings,and the invasion of Italy. In 1958 they were amalgamted with The Essex Regiment, forming the 3rd East Anglian Regiment (16th/44th Foot). In 1964 they were renamed the Royal Anglian Regiment. Their nickname is The Old Bucks or The Peacemakers.
