Description: Formed in 1823. In 1881 they formed the Connaught Rangers by amalgamating with the 88th Regiment of Foot (Connaught Rangers). They saw action in the Boer Wars, fighting at Colenso, Spionkop and Valkrantz and Pieters. During the First World War they fought across the Western, Turkish, Greek, African and Middle-Eastern fronts at battles such as the battle of the Somme (1916), the Ludendorff Offensive, Gallipoli, Salonika and WWI: 3rd battle of the Gaza. They lost over 2,500 men during the war. They were disbanded in 1922. Their nickname is The Devil's Own.
