Description: Formed in 1759 as the 91st Regiment of Foot. They were disbanded in 1763. In 1779 they were raised again as the 91st (Shropshire Volunteers). They were disbanded in 1784. In 1793 Campbell's Regiment was formed and re-designated as the 91st Regiment of Foot in 1794. They disbanded in 1796. In 1794 the 98th (Argyllshire Highlanders) Regiment of Foot was raised. They were renamed the 91st (Argyllshire Highlanders) Regiment of Foot in 1796. They saw action in the Napoleonic war, fighting in the battles of Quatre-Bras and at Waterloo. In 1872 they were renamed the 91st (Princess Louise's Argyllshire Highlanders) Regiment of Foot. In 1881 they formed the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders by amalgamating with the 93rd (Sutherland Highlanders) Regiment. They saw action in the Boer Wars, fighting at Magersfontein, Modder River and Paardenburg. During the First World War they fought across the Western front at battles such as Mons, Le Cateau, Marne, Aisne, the Ludendorff Offensive, Messines, the 1st battle of Ypres, the 2nd battle of Ypres, Festubert, Loos, the Somme (1916), the Hindenburg Line, Arras, Cambrai, the 1st battle of the Somme (1918), Lys, the 2nd battle of the Somme (1918), the3rd battle of Ypres, the advance in Flanders, the 2nd battle of Arras (1917), Selle and Valenciennes. During the Second World War they fought across the Western, African, Italian and Far-Eastern fronts at battles such as El-Alamein and the invasion of Italy. In 2006 they merged with the Royal Scots, the King's Own Scottish Borderers, the Royal Highland Fusiliers, The Highlanders and the Black Watch, forming the Royal Regiment of Scotland. Their nickname is the Agile and Bolton Wanderers, The Rorys or The Thin Red Line.
