Description: Formed in 1793. They saw action in the Napoleonic war, fighting in the failed invasion of Argentina and the Peninsular Wars. They saw action in the Crimean war. In 1881 they formed the Connaught Rangers by amalgamating with the 94th Regiment of Foot. They saw action in the Boer Wars, fighting at Colenso, Spionkop and Valkrantz and Pieters. During the First World War they fought across the Western, Turkish, Greek, African and Middle-Eastern fronts at battles such as the battle of the Somme (1916), the Ludendorff Offensive, Gallipoli, Salonika and WWI: 3rd battle of the Gaza. They lost over 2,500 men during the war. They were disbanded in 1922. Their nickname is The Devil's Own.
