Description: Formed in 1741 as Thomas Fowke's Regiment of Foot. They saw action in the Seven Years War. In 1751 they were renamed the 43rd Regiment of Foot. They saw action in the American War of Independence. In 1782 they were renamed the 43rd (Monmouthshire) Regiment of Foot. They saw action in the Napoleonic war, fighting in the Peninsular Wars. They also saw action in the Indian Mutiny and Maori Wars. In 1881 they formed the Oxfordshire Light Infantry after amalgamating with the 52nd (Oxfordshire) Regiment of Foot (Light Infantry). They saw action in the Boer Wars fighting at Kimberley and Paardenburg. In 1908 they were renamed the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. During the First World War they fought across the Western, Greek, Balkan and Middle-Eastern fronts at battles such as Mons, Marne, Aisne, the 1st battle of Ypres, Festubert, Loos, the Somme (1916), the Hindenburg Line, Arras, Cambrai, Passchendaele, the 1st battle of the Somme (1918), the 2nd battle of the Somme (1918), Selle, Valenciennes, the advance in Flanders, Vittorio Veneto and Doiran. During the Second World War they fought across the Western, African, Italian and Far-Eastern fronts at battles such as the Dunkirk evacuations, D-Day, where they landed on Sword beach, Operation Market Garden and the invasion of Italy. In 1948 they were renamed The Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, 43rd and 52nd. In 1958 the regiment transferred to the Green Jackets Brigade and were renamed the 1st Green Jackets (43rd and 52nd). In 1963 they were re-designated a rifle regiment. In 1966 they amalgamated with the other regiments of the Green Jackets Brigade, forming the Royal Green Jackets. They were disbanded in 1992. Their nickname is The Light Bobs.
