Description: Formed in 1719 from Chelsea pensioners and invalids. by General Edmund Fielding. In 1741 they were renamed the Royal Invalids. In 1751 they were renamed the 41st Regiment of Foot. In 1782 they were renamed the 41st (Royal Invalids) Regiment of Foot. In 1787 they were renamed the 41st Regiment of Foot. They saw action in Canada in the war of 1812. In 1831 they were renamed the 41st (Welch) Regiment of Foot. In 1881 they formed the Welsh Regiment by amalagamting with the 69th (South Lincolnshire) Regiment of Foot. They saw action in the Boer Wars, fighting at Kimberley and Paardenburg. During the First World War they fought across the Western, Middle-Eastern, Greek and Turkish fronts at battles such as Mons, Marne, Aisne, the 1st battle of Ypres, Aubers Bridge, Loos, the Somme (1916), Messines, Passchendaele, Arras, Cambrai, Lys, Hindenburg Line, Valenciennes, Doiran and Gallipoli. During the Second World War they fought across the Western, African, Italian, Middle-Eastern and Far-Eastern fronts at battles such as the invasion of Italy. In 1921 they were renamed The Welch Regiment. In 1969 they were amlagamated with the South Wales Borderers (24th), forming the Royal Regiment of Wales. In 2006 they were amalgamated with The Royal Welch Fusiliers, forming The Royal Welsh (The Royal Regiment of Wales). Their nickname is The Old Agamemnons, The Ups and Downs or Wardour's Horse .
