Description: Formed in 1702 as Huntingdon's Regiment. They were renamed Henry Leigh's Regiment, Robert Duncanson's Regiment, George Wade's Regiment, Henry Hawley's Regiment, Robrt Dalzell's Regiment and John Johnson's Regiment. They saw action in the Wars of the Spanish and Austrian Successions. In 1751 they were renamed the 33rd Regiment of Foot. They saw action in the American War of Independence. In 1782 they were renamaed the 33rd (1st Yorkshire, West Riding) Regiment of Foot. They saw action in the Napoleonic Wars at the battles of Quatre-Bras and Waterloo. In 1852 they were renamed the 33rd (The Duke of Wellington's) Regiment of Foot. They saw action in the Crimean War, fighting at Alma, Inkerman and Sevastapol. In 1881 they were renamed the Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment), having been merged with the 76th Regiment of Foot. They saw action in the Boer Wars, fighting at Paardenburg. During the First World War they fought across the Western, Italian and Turkish fronts at battles such as Mons, Le Cateau, Marne, Aisne, Messines, the 1st battle of Ypres, the 2nd battle of Ypres, the Somme (1916), the Hindenburg Line, Arras, the 1st battle of the Somme (1918), Lys, the Advance in Flanders, the 2nd battle of Arras (1917), Selle, Valenciennes, Passchendaele, Gallipoli and Vittorio Veneto. In 1921 they were renamed The Duke of Wellington's Regiment (West Riding). During the Second World War they fought across the Western, African, Italian and Far Eastern fronts, involved in the Dunkirk evacuations and the invasion of Italy. In 2006 they were amalgamated with the Prince fo Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire and The Green Howards, forming the Yorkshire Regiment. Their nickname is The Havercake Lads or The Old Immortals.
