Description: Formed in 1702 as marines during the War of the Spanish Succession. They saw action during the Napoleonic war fighting in the Peninsular Wars, Quatre-Bras and Waterloo. They lost 516 men at Waterloo, more than any other regiment. They were stationed in India during the Indian Mutiny of 1857. In 1857 they were renamed the 32nd (Cornwall) Light Infantry. In 1881 they formed the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry by amalgamating with the 46th (South Devonshire) Regiment of Foot. They saw action in the Napoleonic Wars, fighting at Napoleonic war: Waterloo. They saw action in the Boer Wars, fighitng at Paardenburg. During the First World War they fought across the Western, Italian, Greek, Far Eastern, African and Middle Eastern fronts at battles such as Mons, Le Cateau, the 1st battle of Ypres, the 2nd battle of Ypres, Mount Sorrel, the Somme (1916), the Hindenburg Line, Arras, Passchendaele, the 1st battle of the Somme (1918) and the Advance in Flanders. During the Second World War they fought on the Western front. In 1959 they merged with the Somerset Light Infantry, forming the Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry. In 1968 they merged with The King's Own Yorkshire Infantry, the Durham Light Infantry and the King's Shropshire Light Infantry. In 2005 they merged with the The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment, The Royal Green Jackets and the Devonshire and Dorset Regiment, forming The Rifles. Their nickname is The Doc's, The Lacedemonians or The Red Feathers.
