Description: Formed in 1652 as part of the East India Company as a Guard of Honour. In 1756 they were renamed the Bengal European Regiment. In 1765 they were renamed the 1st Bengal European Regiment. In 1846 they were renamed the 1st Bengal (European) Fusiliers. In 1861 they were renamed the 1st Royal Bengal Fusiliers. In 1862 they became part of the British army as the 101st Regiment of Foot (Royal Bengal Fusiliers). In 1881 they formed the Royal Munster Fusiliers by amalgamating with the 104th Regiment of Foot (Bengal Fusiliers). Their nickname is The Dirty Shirts.
