Description: Formed in 1715 as Humphrey Gore's Regiment of Dragoons. They fought during the Jacobite Rebellion at the battle of Culloden and were named as Cobham's Regiment of Dragoons. In 1751 they were renamed the 10th Regiment of Dragoons. They fought during the Seven Years War. In 1779 they were renamed the 10th Regiment of (Light) Dragoons. In 1783 they were renamed as the 10th (Prince of Wales's Own) Regiment of (Light) Dragoons, named after Prince George. In 1806 they were renamed the 10th (Prince of Wales's Own) Regiment of (Light) Dragoons (Hussars), fighting in the Napoleonic Wars on the Iberian Peninsula. They also fought at the battle of Waterloo. They also saw action in the Crimean War. In 1861 they were renamed the 10th (The Prince of Wales's Own) Royal Hussars. In 1899 they were deployed in South Africa to fight the Boers, were they fought in the battle of Paardenburg. During the First World War they fought on the Western Front. In 1921 they were renamed 10th Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales's Own). In 1936 they became a mechanised unit. In 1939 they transferred to the Royal Armoured Corps. During the Second World War they fought on both the Western and North African fronts, fighting at thebattle of El Alamein and in the invasion of Italy. In 1969 they were amalagamated with the 11th
Hussars (Prince Albert's Own) forming The Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales's Own). Their nickname is the Bakers Light Bobs or The Shiny Tenth.
