Description: Formed in 1685 as the Earl of Plymouth's Regiment of Horse, ranking 4th. In 1746 it was ranked 3rd and renamed the 3rd Regiment of Dragoon Guards. In 1765 it was renamed 3rd (Prince of Wales's) Dragoon Guards, named after Prince George. They saw extensive action during the First World War, fighting in some of the most famous battles such as the 1st battle of Ypres, Loos, Arras, the Somme (1916), WWI: Hindenburg Line and Cambrai. In 1921 it was amalgamated with the 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers), forming the 3rd/6th Dragoon Guards. Their nickname is The Old Farmers.
