Description: Formed in 1715 as Colonel Philip Honeywood's Regiment of Dragoons. In 1751 they were renamed the 11th Regiment of Dragoons. In 1783 they were renamed the 11th Regiment of Light Dragoons. They saw action during the Jacobite rebellion, fighting at Culloden, as well as the Seven Years War. They saw action during the Napoleonic Wars fighting on the Iberian Peninsula (11th Light Dragoons) and later at the battle of Waterloo. In 1840 they were renamed 11th (Prince Albert's Own) Hussars, named for Queen Victoria's consort. They saw action in the Crimean War as part of the Light Brigade involved in the infamous charge during the battle of Balaclava as well as Alma<, Inkerman and Sevastapol. During the First World War they fought in several notable battles such as Mons, Le Cateau, Marne, Aisne, Messines, Ypres, Loos, Arras, the Somme, Hindenburg Line and Cambrai and Selle. In 1928 the regiment was mechanised. During the Second World War they fought predominantly in North Africa as part of the Desert Rats fighting in battles such as battle of El Alamein before assisting in the invasion of Italy. In 1969 they were amalgamated with the 10th Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales's Own) forming The Royal Hussars (Prince of Wales's Own). In 1992 The Royal Hussars were amalgamated with the 14th/20th King's Hussars forming the King's Royal Hussars. Their nickname is The Cherry Pickers, The Cherubims, Lord Cardigan's Bloodhounds or The Old Canaries.
