Description: Formed in 1689 as Sir Albert Cunningham's Regiment of Dragoons, ranked as the 6th Dragoons. They were raised by the Governor of Inniskilling and were nicknamed the Black Dragoons. They fought for King William against the counter-invasion of James II in Ireland, fighting at the battle of the Boyne. In 1691 they were renamed Echlin's Dragoons. In 1715 they were renamed Dalrymple's Dragoons. In 1734 they were renamed Cadogan's Dragoons. In 1743 they were renamed Dalrymple's Dragoons once more, fighting in Europe during the War of the Austrian Succession. In 1745 they were renamed Leslie's Dragoons. In 1750 they were renamed Cholmondley's Dragoons. In 1751 they were renamed the 6th (Inniskilling) Regiment of Dragoons, later the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons. In 1758 they fought in the Seven Years War. They saw action during the Napoleonic Wars at the battle of Waterloo. In 1815 they were renamed the 6th (Enniskilling) Regiment of Dragoons. In 1854 they took part in the Crimean War, forming a part of the Heavy Brigade in the Balaclava. In 1861 they were renamed as the 6th (Inniskilling) Dragoons and served during the First World War. In 1921 they were renamed The Inniskilling (6th Dragoons) and were amalgamated with the 5th Dragoon Gaurds (Princess Charlotte of Wales's), forming the 5th/6th Dragoons.
