Description: Formed in mid 1700s as Richard Munden's Regiment of Dragoons. In 1751 they were renamed the 13th Regiment of Dragoons. In 1783, having been made light dragoons, they were renamed the 13th Regiment of (Light) Dragoons. They saw action during the Napoleonic Wars serving on the Iberian Peninsula and at the battle of Waterloo. They saw action in the Crimean War, having sailed there aboard the HMS Harbinger, HMS Negotiator, HMS Calliope, HMS Culloden and HMS Mary Ann. They fought at the battles of Alma, Inkerman, Sevastapol and Balaclava, being part of the infamous Charge of the Light Brigade. In 1861 they changed their name to the 13th Hussars. They saw action in the Boer Wars at the siege at Ladysmith as well as Colenso, Spionkop and Valkrantz and Pieters. During the First World War they spent two years on the Western Front before re-deploying to what is today, Iraq. In 1922 they amalgamated with the 18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary's Own) forming the 13th/1th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary's Own). In 1992 they were amalgamated with the 15th/19th King's Hussars forming the Light Dragoons. Their nickname is The Evergreens, The Geraniums, The Green Dragoons or The Ragged Brigade.
