Theatres of War, Army Regiments, Naval Detachments, RAF
Description: Responsible for all army transport, land, coast and air, and were involved in the distribution of food, water, fuel and general equipment. Originally the Army Service Corps, formed in 1870. In 1875 the Control Department (staff officers) split into the Commissariat and Transport Department and Ordnance Store Department. In 1880 the Commissariat and Transport Department was renamed the Commissariat and Transport Staff and the Army Service Corps was renamed the Commissariat and Transport Corps. In 1888 they merged with the War Department Fleet to form the Army Service Corps. In 1918 they were re-named the Royal Army Service Corps. In 1965 they merged with the Transportation and Movement Control Service (part of the Royal Engineers) to form the Royal Corps of Transport with all supply function moving to the Ordnance Corps. In 1993 they merged with the Royal Army Ordnance Corps to form the Royal Logistics Corps.
