Army Ordinance Corps

 

Below is a list of Army Ordinance Corps regiments of the British army that your ancestors may have fought for.

Theatres of War, Army Regiments, Naval Detachments, RAF

Description: Dealt with the maintenance and supply of weapons, munitions and general military equipment. Originally the Army Service Corps, formed in 1870. In 1875 the Control Department (staff officers) split into the Commissariat and Transport Department and Ordnance Store Department. In 1877 the other ranks associated with this work were formed into the Ordnance Store Branch. In 1881 they were re-named the Ordnance Store Corps. The Ordnance Store Department and the Ordnance Store Corps were re-named Army Ordnance Department and the Army Ordnance Corps in 1896. In 1919 they merged to become the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. In 1965 the Royal Army Service Corps merged with the Transportation and Movement Control Service (part of the Royal Engineers), handing all supply function moving to the Ordnance Corps. In 1993 they merged with the Royal Corps of Transport to form the Royal Logistics Corps.
