World War One
Description: Initially part of the Royal Flying Corps, number 63 squadron was active from 1916, formed in Stirling Scotland. The squadron was comprised of De Havilland DH4, Royal Aircraft Factory R.E.8 aircraft. The squadron spent most of the war fighting in Iraq. They were disbanded in 1920.
World War Two
Description: The number 63 squadron was reformed in 1937. It was comprised of Fairey Battle, Avro Anson, Mustang, Hawker Hurricane, and Supermarine Spitfire aircraft. It was the first squadron to receive the Fairey Battle. It was formed from a core of men from No.239 Squadron. They took part in the Normandy landings, part of Operation Overlord, performing a layer of protection for the Royal Navy below.
