Description: Formed in 1943 as part of Bomber Command in Suffolk. They initially flew Short Stirlings before replacing them with Avro Lancasters in late 1943 and early 1944. They were predominantly involved in heavy bombing missions before dropping food to the Dutch, repatriating Allied POWs and moving troops from Italy in 1945. One of the squadron made more than 100 sorties.
