Description: Initially part of the Royal Flying Corps, number 56 squadron was active from 1916 in Northumberland. It was comprised of F.E.2b aircraft, preforming night bombing missions. In 1920 the squadron was renumbered 70 squadron.
World War Two
Description: The number 41 squadron was reformed in 1924. It was comprised of Armstrong Whitworth Whitley and Handley Page Halifax aircraft, together with No.51 Squadron it began the war by dropping leaflets over Germany before engaging in a variety of bombing operations.
