Description: Initially part of the Royal Flying Corps, number 4 squadron was active from 1912. The squadron was comprised of a variety of aircraft, before settling with the Royal Aircraft Factory R.E.8. They took part in the following battles: the battle of Mons, the third battle of Ypres, also known as Passchendaele, and the 2nd battle of the Somme (1918).

World War Two

Description: The number 4 squadron was comprised of Westland Lysander, Mustang, Mosquito and Supermarine Spitfire aircraft. They were involved in the Normandy landings, part of Operation Overlord, and the battle of Arnhem, also known as Operation Market Garden.
