Description: Initially part of the Royal Flying Corps, number 42 squadron was active from 1916. The squadron was comprised of Royal Aircraft Factory B.E.2 and Royal Aircraft Factory R.E.8 aircraft flying mostly reconnaissance missions. They took part in the following battles: the battle of the Somme, battle of Arras, the third battle of Ypres, also known as Passchendaele, and the battle of Lys.

Description: The number 42 squadron, having been created out of the No.22 Squadron, was comprised of Vickers Vildebeest, Bristol Beaufort, Bristol Blenheim and Hawker Hurricane aircraft.
